　　歌曲介绍：
　　“Fade To Black”是关于死亡的，不过这是关于自杀的，被人们称为让人绝望致死的圣歌。整个歌词就是一份自杀者的遗书，不难看出这是一个年轻人。据说后来有个10几岁的男孩一边哼着这首歌一边行凶，结果乐队后来都不是很经常表演这首歌了。不过歌是绝对好的，前半段凄美的旋律和后端反映自杀时刻的guitar配合的相得益彰，这首歌的词儿更是金属摇滚中十分罕见的细腻，从这里你可以知道为什么Metallica老是被说具备“文化气质”。
　　“Fade to black”是METALLICA经典中的经典，也是METALLICA饱受争议的作品，因为当时，有些少年自杀时留的遗言上要求在葬礼上播放“金属”乐队的“Fade To Black” ----这是一首关于某些人企图自杀的歌曲，也有的少年在遗书上抄录了这首歌的歌词。Lars对此无可奈何：“这是令人悲伤的事情，但我们能做什么呢？在这首歌出版的几年中，我们收到几千封孩子们的来信，说这首歌如何给了他们生存的勇气。”更糟的是，他们被牵扯进DEXAS克里斯蒂城的一起枪击事件，当地的电视台大肆宣扬这一事件：有一名少年在服用致幻剂或别的什么毒品之后，发狂杀人。据目击者说，他在向人射击时引用了“金属”乐队的歌词--No Remorse（无悔）。他被判处死刑，在法庭宣判时，他居然再次引用了这首歌的歌词。
　　歌曲的开头是节奏吉他手James Hetfield弹的一段木吉他优美的旋律，在优美略带忧伤中响起。整个前奏james一直在为主音吉他手kirk hammett 伴奏。这段哀伤的前奏隐喻着一个有自杀企图的患者所处的社会和精神环境。一切都是那么悲哀，那么了无希望，让人处于深深的痛苦境地中，之后的歌词是绝对的悲观主义，充斥着厌世和轻生的念头。这段唱完便是一段强劲的电吉他失真节奏铮铮想起，充分体现了自杀者内心交织着的狂乱不安，扭曲的灵魂仿佛就要从行尸走肉中破壳而出！这里的节奏是前奏中节奏乐句的一个变奏。接着歌声又响起，自杀者已经失去了自我，精神上愈加痛苦，无法自拔。从前的苦难历历在目，深深地刺痛了他的每一根神经。他根本无法去面对这一切!在一翻水深火热的狂乱中，患者终于彻底“觉悟”了-----"No one but me can save myself,Death greets me warm, now I will just say goodbye（除了我没有人能拯救我但一切都太迟了。死亡在向我发出温暖的问候 我只想说声:永别了）"。是最好的例证！在一翻猛烈地节奏吉他声中，hammett开始了他的独奏(也是本曲的尾奏)，这是这一切精神灾难的总爆发。快速激烈的solo，撕心裂肺的节奏，带着患者生前一切的往事回忆，像暴雨一样倾盆而下！
