      “Akashi!
Atsumu”
      “Atsumu?
      Atsumu

He’s going to love you, Atsumu.\"
The words echo through Atsumu\'s mind as he stands in the middle of his empty apartment. He hasn\'t heard from Bokuto since they left the cafe earlier that day and he doesn\'t blame him. They\'ve talked on the phone a few times but it was always something small that would be easily missed, something so inconsequential that neither would bring it up again. This is probably what Bokuto wanted from them all along; for things to stop getting too serious between them and now that\'s just not going to happen. No matter how hard Atsumu tries, his heart is still breaking over everything that has happened lately. The tears start falling faster this time and he takes his phone from his pocket to call his best friend once more.
      \"Akaashi! I can\'t believe we\'re done with this!\"
Atsumu sighs as he looks at the screen and then at Bokuto\'s message again. It had been two days since he\'d seen their old group chat and he couldn\'t help feeling guilty about what he saw there, what he said. There were times when Atsumu forgot he could talk to other people, forget that they were actually human beings and that sometimes he made mistakes. But he knew better than to let those kinds of thoughts ruin his friendships or relationships anymore and that\'s why he kept trying his hardest to mend his relationship with Bokuto.
\"I know,\" Akaashi replies, \"You\'re doing really well though, right?\"
Atsumu lets out another defeated sigh. \"Yeah...yeah, I\'m gonna keep trying...\" A pause. \"...but he won\'t forgive me.\" A pause. \"Bokuto\'s going to hate me forever.\"
There\'s another soft chuckle on the other end of the line, but Atsumu knows there\'s no humour behind it anymore. Instead, he hears regret laced in each tone and it hurts worse than anything else Atsumu\'s ever felt before.
      \"...he loves you Atsumu.\"
Atsumu bites back the urge to scream at him because he already knows that Bokuto loves him more than anything. Even after everything, even after everything that\'s happened.
      \"So do you, Keiji.\"
Another chuckle comes in response. It\'s warm and Atsumu\'s sure if he looked at the screen his best friend would give him a gentle smile or an affectionate pat on the shoulder. If Bokuto had been here with him now, they would have had a conversation like that one. They would both laugh, share some jokes and talk about volleyball and life and they would have been happy again.
But Bokuto isn\'t here. And Bokuto never will be, unless he forgives Atsumu and starts again.Chapter 2
Atsumu wakes up to his alarm clock blaring, signaling the hour is almost noon. He groans as he reaches blindly towards his nightstand where his phone and headphones lie waiting for him. He manages to grab his phone first. As soon as he does, however, his eyes widen, staring down at the screen.
10 missed calls and 17 messages?
Atsumu feels his eyes begin to water. What is happening? Why is everyone calling him now? Did he do something wrong? Was he late? Did someone tell him he needed to come to practice today instead? Was it because he lost the bet? Is it because the team\'s losing their minds and wants him to replace Oikawa? That\'s not possible. Atsumu shakes his head to clear away these thoughts and he presses the accept button, raising the phone to his ear. He brings the phone to his mouth as he sits on the edge of his bed, listening to the person speaking on the other side. His voice sounds weak, like he\'s been crying.
      And maybe he has been.
He must have fallen asleep last night, Atsumu thinks. Because he\'s pretty sure he remembers being able to fall asleep early yesterday morning and he remembers Bokuto coming over and making breakfast for him and staying until after dinner and watching movies together, which was usually a rare thing. But Atsumu was so tired last night, so sleepy he barely registered a single moment. Now he does, though. And it hits him so fast that he\'s not sure if he should feel ashamed or angry. Or if he even should feel anything at all.
      \"Hey, Atsumu. Are you alright?\"
Atsumu doesn\'t say anything. He doesn\'t trust himself enough to speak yet. So he remains silent.
      \"Atsumu? You there?\"
His hand tightens around the phone tightly and suddenly his breath catches in his throat.
      \"No... I\'m sorry, Bokuto.\"
Bokuto breathes out a sigh of relief. \"That\'s okay, Atsumu. We\'ll catch up later, alright?\"

Atsumu finally finds his voice but he doesn\'t dare speak. It doesn\'t sound like he\'ll be saying anything for a while. And truthfully, he doesn\'t want to. He\'s just glad he didn\'t lose his best friend completely. After hearing Bokuto\'s voice though he\'s starting to wonder if he ever truly had any friends.
\"It\'s really good to hear your voice.\"
      Atsumu chokes back a sob.
      \"You too.
